One of the functions I love and use a lot is the search window in the upper right corner. I'm in chapter 6 of my (non-fiction) book, and couldn't remember if I'd mentioned a guy earlier. I typed his name in the window, and it showed me -- in that magical binder -- EVERY document chapter or note where he is mentioned.

Turns out, I hadn't mentioned him yet, and in Word or Open Office, I would at least have had to do a "find" in each chapter individually, etc.. But Scrivener is even more helpful in that it also searches every note or chunk of text, and it's proven to be a huge time saver -- and allows me to stay in the flow of the writing rather than wasting a lot of time searching.

The other thing is, Keith Blount (who wrote the program) and David Hewson, et al, are quick to respond when I need help. And they're very understanding of those who are not technically inclined.

Thanks for posting on your process with Scrivener. I opened my main template and added some of your ideas to it. I especially appreciated your sharing the idea about journalling in the project. That is a wonderful idea and keeps everything together. I read some of Sue Grafton's examples and see how it will really help my efforts. Thanks again. Ed.
